WEEK 3 Jan 27-Feb 2/2020
One of our classes this week (Monday January 20/20) was online using ZOOM software. I had mixed feeling getting started and wasn't sure what to expect. After downloading the software and signing onto the synchronous class, I began my online journey. I quickly saw some advantages to conducting classes this way. I have taken asynchronous online classes before and they were ok. This method of synchronous learning was more fun! I could see my classmates and interact with them via a messenger platform or address the whole class by messaging. Also we could speak to the whole class if we wanted to unmuting our microphones. I did run into some problems as well though. If there is any interruption in the internet connect, so will there be in your class. Of course at some important informational moments during the lesson, my internet connection was dropping and it frustrated me. This process is limited by connectivity without a doubt.
On Wednesday in our classroom, we had a guest speaker Chris Fredrickson who is the Web Based Course Consultant from MB Education.
He presented on web based courses in Manitoba and what exists in Manitoba curriculum currently and what will be introduced in the future. I see the options for students will increase and the delivery of education changed in a way to suit learning for a diverse student population. Most importantly, no matter where a student maybe located, as long as they have an internet location they are able to learn online. A couple of new pieces of information I learned was that MB teachers could access information through this platform and help supplement their classroom. Especially if they find they are suddenly teaching outside of their specialization. These guides help teachers meet curriculum outcomes and the content is written by MB teachers for MB teachers.

Week 2
I am excited to be in the Internet for Educators class and there is a large amount of information to digest. Last week I said I wanted to share some resources to foster a growth mindset. This week I will also be creating additional blog posts in response to tech tasks that are assigned in the Internet for Educators class I am currently taking.
When I say there is large amounts of information in this class, I mean for me specifically. Remember I am new to blogging and that also means educational software and general concepts. Tech in general is new to me. I can't stress enough how this is stretching me as an educator and personally. On Wednesday we had Kirsten from Mountain View School Division as a guest speaker. I really enjoyed her presentation and I could have listened to her talk longer. I feel she had more information to share but we will have to get her back into the classroom to share more.
We also had an asynchronous class this week. It was interesting and I found the work fascinating. There were articles to read, videos to watch and then a response in Flipgrid had to be uploaded. I find it difficult to interact with technology and prefer face to face conversations. I do see the value that when all students can't be present, technology is a tool that helps bring us together.
Now for some resources!
These are resources that have helped to push me beyond my comfort zone personally and professionally. Brene Brown is one researcher that specifically addresses shame. I am providing a link to her website here https://brenebrown.com
and a you tube tedtalk video here https://www.ted.com/talks/brene_brown_the_power_of_vulnerability?language=en
Brene Brown changed the way I look at life completely. I feel as an educator if I ask my students to take a chance and be vulnerable in learning then I need to be able to do the same. Brene Brown also is willing to be vulnerable and inspires me to "Dare Greatly!"

Mel Robbins is also another resource I wish to share. She talks about the 5 Second Rule and how important it is not to overthink. She is more of a personal resource. Here is her website https://melrobbins.com and a ted talk video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nI2VQ-ZsNr0
There were some difficult situtations I have experienced and working through some of the activities these two women suggest have helped me get through them. I can't promise they will help you too but maybe they can start a conversation about how to work through tough times. If there is one thing I value, it is open and safe conversations about difficulties we face as human beings.
January can be a difficult month for some people and if I can help one person by starting a conversation-that would be great. Someone reached out to me and I want to pay it forward. I look forward to chatting and I wish a great week to everyone!
